NYFW is now behind us and the many editors, photographers, stylists, bloggers and celebrities can move on to London Fashion Week next. For those of us staying here in New York, it's nice to let the frenzy settle down and gather our thoughts on what was shown during the collections...

My schedule began with Francesca Liberatore at Skylight Moynihan Station. The collection had a very feminine and 1950's focus, with several separates in bold graphic prints or pops of metallics. I really enjoyed the sleeveless dress with a dramatic tail that added drama. The collection was quite wearable and had that Italian aire that she is known for since graduating at Central St. Martins
Namilia was next over at Clarkson Square, which promised to be packed with political statements and Justin Bieber (who also provided the music in a remixed version of "Sorry" that played in the open and closing). The British duo sent out S&M and fetish inspired looks that had ornamental chain details over their latex looks. Emblazoned with "Capulet" or "you can put it anywhere" the tone was heady and rooted in pop culture with the Zayn and Donald Trump visages on dresses and jackets. The collection reminded me of Vetements with it's urban grit and would work well on a statement look for Rihanna as an example.
I greatly enjoyed returning to Erin Fetherston, I've seen her show for several seasons now, and her romantic and dreamy aesthetic always evokes an afternoon at a chic Hamptons party. Always graceful and classic, I really loved the denim jumpsuit and the white silk pant-suit with cut-outs. Erin does an excellent job at showcasing a collection that never feels too over worked while still being ahead of fashion and not following it.
The Carmen Marc Valvo show at the Pier showcased a monochromatic and heavily black and white collection with several hand applique flowers over cocktail dresses and swimwear. I greatly enjoyed Carmen venturing into menswear with a peppering of sleek resort inspired loose trousers and sheer shirts that complimented the womenswear effortlessly. He broke up the black and white with pops of red and sheer paneling which I always love.
I ended my week at Reem Acra and it was pure perfection! The sheer and embellished dresses were a stand out. I particularly loved the black sheer dress that I featured at the top which had a short hem and a tail and glittered as it came down the runway. Reem chose one of my favorite movie soundtracks for the show: Marie Antoinette by Sofia Coppola, a film that is heavily anchored with synth new wave from The Cure and New Order. I couldn't help but think that the film inspired the collection as the hair was done up in a high manner and there were tiny little bows adorning the collars and dresses that surely evoke a certain French queen. Overall, the collection held a great selection of evening wear which she does so very well and is always a red carpet winner. The cocktail dresses and more graphic mini skirt looks also packed a punch that left this as my favorite collection this season.
Bold looks, feminine draping, and glamorous embellishments are what to expect this upcoming season.
