One particularly chilly Sunday morning I donned my finest grey cashmere pullover and cashmere Vuitton scarf as I headed out to have coffee and meet local boutique owner and designer JESSIE BLACK, purveyor of the finest cashmere, bedding and home accessories in San Francisco.
When I arrived to her boutique on Sacramento Street, a chic Aussie with bright blue eyes and soft golden hair swathed in soft layers of cashmere greeted me. Jessie walked me through her boutique and I was immediately impressed. The air had a scent of vanilla and everywhere I looked there were different items in natural hues of cream, beige, taupe and grey. There was an instant sense of walking into someone’s apartment, with several sitting areas that had rich cashmere throws draped over them, white rococo mirrors and even a boudoir that serves as a fitting room. I wanted to touch all of the items carefully selected by Jessie Black in her undeniable “less is more” aesthetic.
Jessie has had a well-traveled life. She’s lived in New York, Sydney, London, Paris, Monte Carlo, and now, San Francisco, merging her favorite elements into an ultra-refined and luxurious offering. Jessie states “I love the chic minimalism of Paris, the classic nature of London, the boldness of New York, the old-world sophistication of Monte Carlo and the freshness and diversity of San Francisco.” The result is a culmination of taste and culture that is funneled into a cohesive offering unlike anything else in the Bay Area.
As I explored the boutique Jessie noted that it wasn’t a typical business day at the shop… Jessie Black was hosting a private party of talented women in the creative arts. There were beautiful floral arrangements being brought in along with pastries and champagne. The boutique not only has cozy and inviting sitting areas but also has a garden that is accessed through the boudoir area. The ladies started to show up for their gathering and Jessie and I slipped outside where I wanted to delve deeper into her love for fine textiles. She explained that her cashmere throws and blankets are made from the same cashmere as Chanel and Hermès. Jessie Black 1000 thread count bed sheets are bright white and are produced with the great-grandson of Frette – sold in exquisite silk lined cashmere bags. The cashmere loungewear is offered in simply colored solids all made in Scotland. Jessie also offers select coats and cardigans that she jointly designs with Paris based KIRA OWEN and San Francisco’s LAN JAENICKE.
The DNA of Jessie Black’s boutique proposes minimalist luxury that will remain classic and timeless. The boutique is an excellent destination for designers and clients with a passion for quality textiles.
