The Met Costume Institute, known for it's comprehensive archive of clothing from several centuries, legendary gowns from the likes of Lanvin, Saint Laurent and Balenciaga and its glamorous yearly gala that for many is considered the "Super Bowl of Fashion" has announced that it will now be known as The Anna Wintour Costume Center.
The Editor-in-C̶̶h̶̶i̶̶e̶̶f̶ Chic of Vogue Magazine has been on the Board of the Met since 1999 and has since raised $125 Million for the Costume Institute and co-chaired 15 benefits while securing funds for the recent remodel that will be finished in time for the Met's re-opening on May 8th.
“Anna Wintour’s extraordinary advocacy and fundraising have made this state-of-the-art space a reality,” said Daniel Brodsky, the Museum’s Chairman.
The iconic fashion mecca has had such influential people under it's roof and at it's helm for many years, most notably, the doyenne of fashion: Diana Vreeland (from 1972-1989). In addition to preserving and archiving fashion, the Met has had so many thrilling exhibits these last few years (remember the McQueen exhibit with the throngs of people lining up around the block day after day?; I REALLY enjoyed the Prada/Schiaparelli exhibit)
The remodel (and rename) is just in time for the latest exhibit on designer Charles James with over 100 pieces that encompass his career from 1929 to 1978.
