Dolce & Gabbana's latest presentation at Milan's Fashion Week left me yearning to be conquered by the Norman's, as they did Sicily in the 17th century.
Domenico and Stefano drew inspiration from the history of their native Sicily and the Norman kings that landed in Messina. The immediate parallels to Game of Thrones is apparent but both designers say they haven't seen the wildly popular show. The ultra-luxe fabrics and furs on the hyper masculine models (I've always loved how Dolce & Gabbana objectify men in their shows!) include many religious and regal prints. The accessories were heavy on studs and armor detailing, like the hand-woven wool hoods and the shoes made with fur, embellished and studded on velvet.
I truly am obsessed with the crowns, I long for one and often think of what occasion calls for a crown? (do you even need an occasion to wear a crown?) I really wanted a Dolce crown last season during their women's byzantine inspired show and now... they're perfection.
For me this is an exciting season in menswear, I think Winter 2015 will be one of luxurious warmth, style and a unique panache we haven't seen before.
